This year, Buddhist Lent Day (Khao Phansa) falls on Friday, July 11, 2025, which is the first waning moon day of the 8th lunar month every year.
On this day, Buddhist monks begin their three-month rains retreat, staying in one place as prescribed by the monastic code. It is a tradition for laypeople to offer ‘Khao Phansa candles’ and bathing robes to the monks for use throughout the retreat.
