As Winter Approaches: Common Reasons Your Car Is Hard to Start

Reasons why cars are hard to start during winter — how does cold weather affect your vehicle?

Engine oil becomes thicker:
Engine oil can thicken or even partially solidify in cold weather, causing poor circulation. This may lead to engine malfunction or make the car difficult to start.

Low engine oil pressure:
The engine relies on oil pressure to allow the engine oil to circulate smoothly. Extremely cold temperatures can cause the system to operate abnormally.

Battery:
When temperatures drop, battery capacity decreases and the battery discharges more quickly, making it harder to start the car.

📢 There are also other possible causes that can make a car hard to start, such as worn spark plugs, a faulty alternator, or loose battery terminals.

💡 Tip: If the car won’t start, wait about 30 seconds and try again to allow the battery to rest and regain some power.
