What Are the Lines on a Car’s Rear Windshield For?
The lines that appear on the rear windshield are actually defogger or defroster wires. Cars are equipped with a defogging system for both the front and rear windshields, controlled by switches located on the vehicle’s dashboard.
When you press the defogger button, electric current flows through the copper wires embedded in the glass, generating heat that helps clear fog or condensation from the windshield.
This feature is extremely useful, especially on rainy or humid days, as it restores visibility for safer driving.
However, there is an important precaution to keep in mind: after using the defogger, always remember to turn it off immediately. Leaving it on for too long can cause the glass to crack because the heating elements continue to produce heat.
If the rear windshield breaks due to defogger heat, the only solution is to replace the entire glass panel.
