Causes of Difficulty Starting a Car in Winter
- Thickened Engine Oil:
Engine oil can become thick and stiff in cold weather, making it less efficient in circulation and potentially causing engine malfunctions or difficulty starting. - Low Oil Pressure:
Engines rely on oil pressure to maintain smooth circulation of engine oil. In extremely cold weather, the oil system may not function properly. - Battery Issues:
At low temperatures, the battery’s capacity decreases, and it discharges more quickly, making it harder to start the car.
Other Possible Causes:
- Worn-out spark plugs
- Malfunctioning alternator
- Loose battery terminals
Tips:
If your car doesn’t start, wait 30 seconds and try again. This allows the battery to rest and regain some energy.
