The Vegetarian Festival, also known as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, is a traditional observance during which participants refrain from consuming meat and animal products as an act of compassion and non-violence toward all living beings.
The festival dates are based on the Chinese lunar calendar — beginning on the 1st day of the 9th lunar month and continuing until the 9th day, lasting a total of nine days each year.
