How to deal with Mirage.

Mirage, or optical illusion, is a phenomenon that we often encounter, especially during extremely hot weather. When driving or riding in a car during lunchtime on a hot day, many people might notice what looks like a puddle or water on the road. But as we get closer, the puddle disappears. Have you ever wondered why this happens?

A mirage occurs when the air close to the road or desert is very hot, while the air higher up is cooler. The difference in air density causes light to travel at varying speeds. Since the two mediums have different densities, light refracts, and when the angle of light reflection exceeds the critical angle, total internal reflection occurs. This causes the appearance of a water-like reflection or a mirror on the road, even though there’s no actual puddle.

How to deal with Mirage:

  1. Always keep an eye on the road from different angles and avoid focusing on just one point for too long.
  2. Try to look at the road at varying distances to shift your focus.
  3. If your eyes get tired, stop and rest for at least 15 minutes in a safe area.
  4. Wear sunglasses to filter out light or use a sun visor to block the direct sunlight.
