Summer Warning: Parking Your Car Under the Sun Can Be Dangerous!
The weather in Thailand right now can be described as “scorching hot,” with some areas reaching temperatures as high as 44°C. Many people may find it necessary to park their cars under the sun every day, but this could lead to several issues:
- Interior components deteriorate: Parts like the steering wheel, console, and leather seats can degrade due to prolonged sun exposure.
- Rubber parts become dry and brittle: Items like windshield wipers, door seals, and window seals can wear out faster when exposed to heat for extended periods.
- Car paint fades: The heat can damage the vehicle’s clear coat, causing the car color to fade faster than usual.
- Window film degrades: The sun’s intense heat over long periods can weaken window tinting.
- Engine components wear out: Especially fluid systems like engine oil and coolant, which should be checked regularly to ensure they meet standard levels.
- Tires overheat: Prolonged exposure to heat can increase tire pressure, so be sure to check your tire pressure more frequently.
Recommendations if you must park your car under the sun:
- Use a car cover or sunshades that meet standards to protect the vehicle both inside and out from direct sunlight.
- Never leave children or pets inside the car: The rising heat can be fatal.
- Avoid storing hazardous items: Do not leave items like spray cans or spare batteries in the car, as they may explode in the heat.
