Driving Through Floodwater: What Water Level Is Too Dangerous?

Don’t Risk It! Floodwater Levels Drivers Should Avoid

During periods of heavy and continuous rainfall, flooding can occur in many areas. Extra caution is needed when driving, and if you must drive through floodwater, assess the situation carefully—consider the depth of the water and the height of your vehicle.

▶ Water level 5–10 cm: Safe for all vehicles, but drive slowly and cautiously. Avoid high speeds.

▶ Water level 10–20 cm: Larger vehicles can usually pass; small cars should proceed with extra caution.

▶ Water level 30–60 cm: Small cars should avoid. Pickup trucks may still pass, but the risk increases. Turn off the air conditioner while driving through.

▶ Water level 60–80 cm: Dangerous for all vehicle types. Do not attempt to drive through unless you are highly experienced. It is strongly advised to take an alternate route.

▶ Water level over 80 cm: Extremely hazardous. Do not attempt to drive through—use a different route. Floodwater at this depth can severely damage your vehicle.

✅ Always prepare your vehicle, check your route, and monitor weather conditions before any trip during the rainy season to ensure safe driving.
